At The Lake Doctor we realize that if you are considering dredging your lake or pond, you probably have many questions. This page has been designed to provide answered to some of the most common questions we answer on a daily basis. If you have any further questions or we can assist you in any way, please feel free to contact The Lake Doctor at 972-523-3232. |
How do I know if my lake needs dredging services?
Algae blooms, excessive weeds, decreased water clarity, reduced depth are all signs of sediment build up. The only way to see what is at the bottom is a professional dredging service. Black muck, bubbles, excessive odor and unhealthy or dying fish are also indicators.
The Lake Doctor provides lake management services including sediment removal services to the entire Dallas, Fort Worth metroplex. |
What size ponds will you clean? |
At The Lake Doctor, we provide dredging services to small ponds as well as lakes. No project is too small or too large for The Lake Doctor. |
What if my pond has a liner? |
Our experts at The Lake Doctor will take special care to utilize different techniques and equipment, but all ponds can be cleaned. |
What does it cost to remove sediment? |
There are many factors that affect the cost of these services. Once we are contacted and can gather some preliminary information we can provide you with some rough estimates. Once we determine the scope of the project and the details are worked out we can provide a contract for the project with fixed costs. We use a mapping program as well as a manual inspection to determine the volume.
How much of the sediment do you remove? |
It is not necessary in most cases to get 100% of the sediment removed. There will always be some material left around the edges and on the bottom. This will not affect the quality of the water or function of the pond. |
How far can you pump the sediment? |
Our experts at The Lake Doctor can pump the material 1,500 – 2,500 feet depending on the elevation we are pumping and the material being pumped. |
What happens to the material that is dredged?
In most cases it is pumped to its final location. If needed, we can also help you make arrangements with local contractors to haul the material away. In some cases it can be sold for to topsoil or compost. |
No! We have worked in small ponds and watched as the fish swam around the dredge.
What happens to the water you pump out? |
In small ponds we will try to return it so we do not pump the pond dry. If needed, we run the water through a cleaner so we are not returning sediment to the water.
Permit requirements vary from county to county. There are many exceptions and situations. We recommend you check with your local authorities to find out more. Most have this information available online. |
